Screencasts made easy

Do you want to flip your classroom but don't want to make the video? You can find tons of videos already made for any age, subject and length. Here is a wonderful example for a kindergarten classroom made by Megan Anderson, a kindergarten teacher at Red Lion School District. Notice how she introduces the topic, explains how to do it and then offers several opportunities for the students to practice. When you follow this framework, creating screencasts are easy. Even better, screenr.com offers this service for free!

Make sure to check back to Megan's screenr channel for more great videos.

  1. Very cool! What program did you use to display the information, powerpoint? I like how everything is organized and highlighted. You also use a variety of visuals that probably help keep kindergarteners interested and engaged. This would be great for my 4th graders who need remediation with place value.

  2. I loved the video and think that you covered a variety of different ways to have the students practice their 10's and 1's. Have you considered leaving more "blank air" after you ask a question?
Also, have you considered using VoiceThread for this so that the students could post their answers?

  3. I can imagine kindergarteners watching this video and counting along with you. I could definitely use this as a quick review at the beginning of the year when we review place value to the tens before continuing to the hundreds and thousands. I'm thinking I will add it to my Moodle site for students to review even before the class--it will save time, and they will enjoy watching it! Thank you!
