Figurative Language

Everyone is looking for a fun and creative way to introduce figurative language to their students. Don't recreate the wheel, York Township's elementary teacher, Katie Haun, has done the work for you. Check out the two videos she made for free on animoto.com:

Video One

Video Two

  2. Our English teacher is covering figurative language right now and this would be prefect for her to show as a short reminder in class. Great presentation- short, catchy, dynamic. I can picture a kid checking it out to refresh their memory about what they learned before writing a paper or working on a big project.

  3. Great music choice. It sets the entire tone of the video! I can't wait to use this tomorrow as a simple figurative language review for my kiddos to watch right before the PSSAs. Perfect timing :) I'm thinking this could be turned into a class project where students are put into groups and have to create a video for a specific part of figurative language to add on to this.

  4. I loved the video! At what part of the lesson are you using the video? Have you considered adding your voice so that students can relate/hear how you pronounce the words or how they would be in a sentence?

    1. I used it as a whole-class refresher after I had introduced the concepts during guided reading groups. I didn't know that I could add my own voice through Animoto, although now that I think about it, maybe I could record myself in a different program and upload my own audio. Thank you!
